Midland Park, NJ - January 17, 2003 --- U.S. Silver Dollars personally autographed by Presidents George Bush and Gerald Ford are up for sale on Ebay. The entire proceeds of this and other Ebay auctions will be donated to Ian Ivie, 24, and his wife, Jerusha, 26, of Hanford, California. Mr. Ivie, who aspires to be an art teacher, and his wife, are middle-class Americans, raising two very young sons, who desperately need $8,000 so that Ian can get a kidney transplant this April. Both of his kidneys are failing. His brother is a match, but the funds are needed to cover all medical and living expenses. Authors and collectible experts Les and Sue Fox found the Ivies on Ebay, selling Beanie Babies and other items, to try to raise the money they need. The Foxes, who wrote "The Beanie Baby Handbook" in 1998, decided to try to help by auctioning items of their own on Ebay, and donating the money to the Ivies. These items include coins personally autographed for the Foxes by two former U.S. Presidents, George Bush and Gerald Ford. Unlike a recently publicized auction offering a "Family For Sale" for $5,000,000 (which Ebay pulled from its listings) the Foxes' auction is a genuine effort to help a young family in need. They hope that the auction will attract media attention. "The Ivies are only trying to raise $8,000," said Les Fox. "However, even with the help of the National Kidney Foundation, who has agreed to match certain funds, they may need a lot more than $8,000 to cover all costs. It's a miracle that Ian's brother is a match, but they have a long way to go in order for the Ivies' kids to grow up with a healthy mom and dad."
